Journalist Brandon Brown was attacked on Dec. 7 during a demonstration in Portland, Oregon. In addition to being beaten by radical groups, he lost his recording equipment during the attacks.

In a Twitter publication the journalist explained that he went to cover a rally of the neo-Nazi trend group known as “The Hammerskins,” however it turned out to be false and instead he found himself in the middle of a revolt by members of the left-wing extremist group antifa.

The reporter explained that at the same time the radicals attacked a number of members of the pro-LGBT group Portland’s Liberation, who were present to protest against the Nazis. Once the reporter recorded the riot, he was attacked by antifa supporters.

“As I filmed this menacing behavior, ANTIFA protesters aggressively turned on me. One of my cameras was knocked to the ground by the angry mob,” the journalist wrote.

Brown said the radicals broke his glasses and injured his left eye, saying he had to go to the hospital and was diagnosed with a vitreous detachment injury. Brown is raising funds through the GoFundMe page to recover his video equipment.

Attacks on journalists by the anti-government group have occurred on other occasions, reporter Andy Ngo was also attacked last June while covering a demonstration by an extreme right-wing group called Proud Boys.

According to The Washington Times, the reporter then said he was hit several times on the face and head by demonstrators.

In a statement from the Portland Police Union, President Daryl Turner addressed Portland’s Democratic mayor, Ted Wheeler, to say that the city police were unwilling to contemplate violence by radical groups.

Turner said, “It’s time for our mayor to do two things:  tell both ANTIFA and Proud Boys that our City will not accept violence in our City and remove the handcuffs from our officers and let them stop the violence through strong and swift enforcement action. Enough is enough.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued a statement in July asking Attorney General William Barr to open an investigation against the leftist antifa group, as well as Mayor Wheeler for refusing to protect Portland’s citizens from extremist aggressions.
