Democrats are panicking.
A bombshell report threw them back on their heels just one day after the midterm election.
That’s because a reporter overheard a secret phone call revealing their secret impeachment plans.
Democrats tried to hide the fact they wanted to impeach Donald Trump if they won back the House.
Nancy Pelosi avoided any impeachment talk on the campaign trail.
She also advised other Democrats to avoid the subject.
“I don’t think we should be talking about impeachment. I’ve been very clear right from the start,” the San Francisco liberal declared. “On the political side I think it’s a gift to the Republicans.”
But now that the election is over and the Democrats won the House, the gloves are off.
The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway happened to be riding on an Amtrak train when she overheard senior Democrat Jerry Nadler – who will chair the Judiciary Committee – on the phone discussing the Democrats plans to impeach both Donald Trump and Brett Kavanaugh.
Hemingway reported that Nadler wanted to go after Kavanaugh by investigating the FBI’s supplemental background investigation.
The FBI interviewed witnesses who gave no proof to back up the claims against Kavanaugh.
But Democrats whined they did not interview enough people.
The two discussed two routes for investigating new Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh. The first is to go after the FBI for how they handled the investigation into unsubstantiated claims he sexually assaulted women. “They didn’t even do a half-ass job,” he said. “They didn’t interview 30 witnesses who said ‘Interview me! I’ve got a lot to say!’” he said, while mimicking people waving their hands to be called on.
Nadler also discussed using the debunked conspiracy theory that Kavanaugh had perjured himself as grounds for impeachment.
Hemingway also reports:
His other plan is to go after Kavanaugh because “there’s a real indication that Kavanaugh committed perjury.” He claimed that The Atlantic published an article about the allegations of a third woman. Then he claimed that when Kavanaugh was “asked at a committee hearing under oath when he first heard of the subject, he said, ‘When I’d heard of the Atlantic article.’ But there is an email chain apparently dating from well before that from him about ‘How can we deal with this?’” Nadler told the caller.
Hemingway noted that Nadler admitted impeaching Kavanaugh would not accomplish anything.
Republicans control the Senate.
That means Trump can nominate someone just as conservative to replace him.
Nadler also told the person on the other end of the phone that Democrats plan to investigate Trump from every angle.
They will use multiple committees to probe every aspect of Trump’s life.
From there, they hope one will produce something they can use for impeachment.
Nadler said Russia investigations would be under a broad umbrella of holding Trump “accountable,” since it’s a more palatable argument than impeachment, that they would be going “all-in,” and much of what they get to would be “depending on what [special counsel Robert] Mueller finds.” Still, he said the Judiciary Committee would only be in a supportive role to Rep. Adam Schiff and the Intelligence Committee, which has “a way ahead start on that.” Still, he said Judiciary “will have a role” in the Russia investigations.
Trump warned Democrats he would move to “war footing” if they tried to bury him with investigations.
It appears they are ready to call his bluff.
But it could end up being the biggest mistake they’ll ever make.
