‘I’ve ruined my life,’ says a young man repentant of changing his gender

A young American named Nathaniel underwent gender-change surgery just over a year ago and now regrets his decision: “This whole thing was a bad idea. I am 19 years old, and I feel as though I have ruined my life,” he said.

The testimony was collected by Walt Heyer, who through his website SexChangeRegret.com and his blog WaltHeyer.com, raises awareness of those who lament gender change and the tragic consequences suffered as a result.

Heyer decided to tell Nathaniel’s story—with his consent—to raise awareness about the lives of young people being ruined by rushing into surgery. His story was published in the Daily Signal.

Nathaniel said that when he was a boy he was bullied by his classmates in elementary school because he was sensitive and preferred girls’ games. When he was a little older, he discovered pornography on the Internet and heard about transsexualism. “I convinced myself that’s what I was,” he said.

A week after he turned 15, he began seeing a doctor to begin the process of gender change, with his mother’s consent.

“From then on, I slowly detached from everything until I was just staying home, playing video games, and going on the internet all day. I stopped reading, drawing, riding my bicycle. I surrounded myself in an echo chamber that supported and validated my poor decisions, because the others were also, unfortunately, stuck in that pit, too,” the young man told Heyer.

One month after turning 18, the young man underwent what they call “bottom surgery.” For a man like Nathaniel, that means reshaping the male genitals into a pseudo-vagina. A few months later he suffered some complications that required a second surgery and then underwent facial surgery to further feminize his appearance.

Nine months after that he said, “Now that I’m all healed from the surgeries, I regret them. The result of the bottom surgery looks like a Frankenstein hack job at best, and that got me thinking critically about myself.”

According to Heyer, Nathaniel is a brilliant young man who never had the benefit of solid and effective counseling, which would have prevented this mistake from happening. Now the young man is very depressed.

He also said that as more and more people seek help at gender clinics, there is a wave of people who regret the sex change on the other side. Based on that, Heyer wrote a book with 30 of their stories called “Trans Life Survivors.”

In the article “Observations in a Gender Diversity Clinic,” published in Ethics and Medics, pediatrician Monique Robles observed that children and adolescents are induced into puberty blockers, cross hormones and “sex reassignment surgery” in gender clinics, but do not receive any psychological counseling.

However, a study recently published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that nearly 80% of transgender college students reported having mental health problems, four times more than the rest.

“Sex reassignment” surgery refers to surgical procedures in which a person’s genitals are modified so that they coincide with the gender the patient “identifies with.”

It is also accompanied by the previous treatment of hormones that in some countries is very simple to obtain.

Instead of teaching everyone to accept themselves as they are, gender ideology teaches young people to fight against who they are.

Gender ideology—the tendency of the ‘new left’ and of progressivism—has shown that it goes against all scientific and moral logic. Young people are not the culprits, they are victims of a system that sells them the ‘illusion’ of being someone they are not, of being the opposite of what they biologically are.
