Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats entered the midterm elections expecting a blue wave.
But they got something else entirely.
Pelosi and the Democrats were smacked with some very bad news about impeaching Donald Trump.
As of early Wednesday morning, Democrats won at least 28 Republican held seats in the House.
Since they only needed to win back 23 seats, Democrats will now control the House of Representatives for at least the next two years.
But their win was not the sweeping victory Americans saw in previous elections.
In 1994, Republicans flipped 52 Democrat held seats to win control of the House for the first time since 1946.
And in 2010, the Tea Party wave saw the GOP win a historic 63 seats in stunning rebuke to Barack Obama’s anti-American agenda.
The Democrat majority will be much smaller in 2019.
There was a common thread for Republicans who lost.
They all ran away from Donald Trump and his immigration agenda.
RINO Congresswoman Barbara Comstock denounced Trump in 2016.
She refused to support his calls to crack down on illegal immigration.
So Republican voters saw no reason to turnout and support her or other RINOs like her.
Paul Ryan also begged Trump to stop talking about the caravan threatening to invade America.
Republicans refusing to embrace the America First immigration agenda led to their defeat in the House.
Trump acknowledged this reality in a Wednesday morning tweet.
Those that worked with me in this incredible Midterm Election, embracing certain policies and principles, did very well. Those that did not, say goodbye! Yesterday was such a very Big Win, and all under the pressure of a Nasty and Hostile Media!
Democrats winning the House led to many so-called journalists and liberals speculating about impeachment.
Since Democrats won the House, they have subpoena power.
Democrats can bury the Trump administration under an avalanche of investigations and hope something sticks.
Their base demands revenge on Trump so pundits expect the new Democrat majority to pursue impeachment.
But Democrats and Nancy Pelosi ran into a cold reality.
Republicans grew their Senate majority.
They picked up at least three seats in the Senate – and they may win as many as five when all the votes are counted in Florida and Montana.
That means any impeachment effort is dead in the Republican controlled Senate.
Democrat base voters will lose their minds over this reality.
They don’t want to wait until 2020 for their chance to remove Trump through the democratic process.
They want Trump gone now.
That will only push them to demand more extreme actions by the newly elected Democrat majority.
This could come back to haunt the Democrats in 2020.
Their slim House majority will be at risk if the American people judge them to be a group of unhinged extremists.
We will keep you up to date on any new developments in this ongoing story.
