A Democrat from Michigan thanked the Trump administration for saving her life by letting her know about experimental medication that is believed to cure the deadly Asian disease.
State Rep. Karen Whitsett (D-Mich. 9th District) has praised President Donald Trump for championing hydroxychloroquine as a potential treatment for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Virus.
Whitsett confirmed her symptoms including difficulty breathing, swollen lymph nodes, and what appeared to be a sinus infection rapidly disappeared.
“It was less than two hours [before I started to feel relief,]” she said according to the Detroit Free Press. “It has a lot to do with the president … bringing it up.”
Whitsett tested positive for the CCP Virus on March 31 and, on the same day, followed the president’s advice that the experimental drug is effective when combined with azithromycin antibiotics.
Although her doctor prescribed the drug, other primary health professionals criticized her for risking her life by taking an experimental drug. Those health professionals were left speechless after she made a rapid recovery.
Hydroxychloroquine is normally used to prevent and treat either malaria or lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and other medical conditions.
Whitsett believes the president saved her life and could potentially save many more.
“Yes, I do,” she said. “I do thank him for that … he is the only person who has the power to make it a priority.”
President Trump thanked the state representative for her kind words and was pleased to hear she was already on the mend.
“Congratulations to state Rep. Karen Whitsett of Michigan,” he said on Twitter. “So glad you are getting better.”
She responded to the president’s message by further expressing her gratitude.
“Thank you Mr. President,” she said on Twitter.
“Thank you for thinking of Michigan,” she added on Twitter.
Whitsett believes her husband Jason was exposed to the virus while carrying out his engineering duties at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. He has been tested for the CCP Virus but the results were not made public at the time of publication.
A number of her close contacts have already lost their lives to the disease, including fellow Michigan Rep. Isaac Robinson and Greater Metropolitan Church Bishop Veodis Gaines.
“This is a very uncertain time,” she said. “As a lawmaker, I want to be sure, but I am not always sure … there have been pandemics before, so we do know that there will be an end to it.”
